It isn't hard to realize that TV's are extremely popular. Things like Netflix, Hulu, Firestick, Xbox, Wii, etc. all add to the draw of Television. All of these things are made primarily to be used on a TV. Why? Because the creators know that most people have TV's and use them frequently. Since they came out, TV's have ruled the world of media. There are newspapers and magazines still, but they have greatly demassified. Both of those mediums show ads, tell stories and give news. Television offers all of those things in better ways. TV ads are more interesting, TV offers numerous news channels, and you can find plenty of shows focused on entertainment or information. In addition, you don't have to read TV which I think is a lure for many people, particularly the younger population. Since their invention, TV's have become more and more of household items. Amelia's ideas about the power of music were very familiar to me. I think for many people, their emotions and thoughts toward music would mimic hers. Her post even had similar points to the ones I made on my thoughts on recording, like how we take for granted the ability to turn on whatever we want whenever we want and be able to replay the same message as many times as we want. Amelia mentioned specifically that since she's been in high school, her appreciation for music has grown and she's realized what an effect it can have on you and your mood or emotions. Personally, I feel as though I've always constantly listened to music and realized the effects it has on me and the reliance I have on it, but the older I get and the more I learn the more I appreciate the fact that we can listen to music. In between newspapers and television, magazines definitely had their glory days, which I never knew. Magazines introduced multiple concepts we had never had, that we still use today. For example, a national medium to share news. In my opinion, the most valuable thing we got from magazines was the ability to spread American culture nationwide. People were new and just getting the feel for things and establishing rules for how things would run, they needed to be able to communicate and send widespread messages. The first magazine was invented not too long before America was established so they must've played in a big role. People lived in different parts of the new land and wouldn't know what was going on or what things were being sold in different areas if it weren't for magazines. I don't know exactly how, but I believe things back then wouldn't have been the same without magazines, therefore making today somewhat different.

Today, WHAS posted on their website a story about a body being found in a duffle bag in Indiana, which authorities are now investigating. While this article tells citizens what's going on around them and it tells the truth, it is not newsworthy for numerous reasons. There is not a clear goal of telling people of the crime, it does not impact a lot of people for a long time, and the article only has quotes from the police, no witnesses, family members, or anybody else, making it one sided. While the death of the man found will most likely have a tremendous impact on his family, it does not impact the whole city. Furthermore, while there is freedom of speech, what if the family of the man, or the man, did not want his death publicly announced; especially considering the circumstances? Small crimes like these get reported all the time but are rarely remembered by people. They momentarily remind people of the daily dangers our world presents and for many people, crime is entertainment

On October 23rd, WHAS posted a story explaining different ways to get involved in pumpkin carving in Louisville. The article opens by explaining how to carve and what materials are needed to do so. The article goes on to show different designs both just regular Halloween themes and designs specific to Louisville, like the skyline. While this article is truthful, entertaining, and helpful, it is not newsworthy and definitely shouldn't have been on the leading page of their website. While Halloween is a holiday most people in America enjoy and celebrate, many do not; and it only applies to the month of October. It was also not something that people had to know, it was just something they thought people might want to know. The front page of a news website should be reserved for things that matter more. Although, because it was on a website and not on the news show, it's not completely unacceptable that there be entertainment stories however, there should be a separate section for

We take advantage of the ability to record daily. We use recorded messages to learn, communicate, listen to music, watch movies, and many other things. Just within music there are so many messages we can convey that wouldn't be possible without recording. This is why Thomas Edison, Berliner and Maxwell are all so important. Granted, others may have been able to come up with the same inventions but who's to say they would be identical or invented in the same time period? The phonograph, gramophone and electronic microphone all pay crucial roles in shaping how our societies interact and function today. When we started talking about this topic in class, I was surprised I had never heard of the exact inventions before, especially the gramophone since it took a rather large leap, making recordings replay-able and the invention itself being so reliable and reproducible.
